What is Loyalty? How can I achieve it?
 
Loyalty by Definition:
fidelity, allegiance, devoted.
 
The classic example of  a business loyalty program is the American Airlines AAdvantage mileage program. Started in 1981 American Airlines was looking for a way to differentiate itself from all other airlines. It didn't take long before all other airlines implemented their own program and the program names changed over the years.
 
Earn Free Travel!
The prospect of earning FREE travel excited everyone. The best part about the program was that American Airlines had zero liability for travel redemption until the consumer reached 25,000 accumulated miles. Even when the customer was ready to travel they had to schedule it with 14 days advance notice, stay a weekend and deal with block out dates. The airlines loved it.
 
American Airlines approached American Express to launch an airline mileage card and American Express under the leadership of Jim Robinson (CEO 1977-1993) declined the offer. American Airlines partnered with Citi Card and the rest is history. It wasn't until 1996 that American Express launched Membership Miles and then quickly changed the name to Membership Rewards to appeal to a greater audience of people.
 
Does everyone need a loyalty program?
While not every retailer has to reward every purchase, all retailers that fully understand the value proposition and the significance of the top tiered customers they will actively implement a program to reward and retain their best customers.

While results vary based on the categories of products you carry, we have seen a general conversion rate of .9 to 3.1%.
